The most popular fair in India and by far, attracts the largest number of tourists from the world. It’s an annual 5 days fair which is organized is a small town known as Pushkar in Rajasthan. This small town is famous for the only temple of Lord Bramha (the creator) in India. The temple is known to be one of the oldest in the country.
The whole town is established around a lake which is called as the Pushkar Lake and on the banks of the lake Pushkar fair is organised. The lake is considered sacred and taking a dip in the lake on the full moon day, is the custom here. The fair is a mix of religious gathering to celebrate the auspicious positioning of moon as well as for the world’s largest cattle fair. The cattle fair is a commercial gathering as it witnesses around 50000 camels being traded. The main fair operates for 5 days as the fairground gets the busiest during this period. Apart from trading of cattle’s, It also features various competitions i.e camel races, Longest moustache, bridal competition and other cultural programs to keep the tourist busy. The fair is organized between October and November as the dates differ every year depending on the moon positioning.
Pushkar fair is one of the most popular shows of India, drawing huge crowd from all over the world. This period is considered as peak period in the tourism industry and most of the accommodations/hotels get booked much in advance. Hotel prices are also higher in this period. But, as they say, Pushkar fair is definitely worth visiting and also a highlight of the Rajasthan tour.
