The town is a twin settlement with upper Dharamshala, also known as Mcleodganj, situated at an altitude of 1830 m. It is the residence of His holiness, Dalai Lama, who is staying here since exile. It is now the headquarters of central Tibetan Administration. One can also notice the influence of British architecture in the Old Mansions and Churches here. The lower Dharamshala is a more commercial center and is situated at an altitude of 1380 m. The Buddhist monasteries and ancient Hindu temples here provide the spirituality content in the atmosphere. If all of this is not enough, try the mouth-watering Tibetan food here.
